“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden, nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” Matthew 5:14-15.
Welcome to the House of Light. We are a Christian social aid ministry located in the Galilee, Israel. Since 1984 we have been ministering to families, children and youth (through a program called King’s Kids), girls in distress, drug addicts, and prisoners.
Please be patient with us as we build our home on the web! |

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,
“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Prov 22:6
King’s Kids Summer Camp – another great success!! Our small group of 31 spent a week in St. Margaret Hostel in Nazareth to worship, learn, and fellowship together. If you ask one of the King’s Kids the question “What is the reason for the hope that is in you?” (From 1 Peter 3:15) he should have an answer for you, as our objective for this year’s camp was to learn the response to this question, first for ourselves, and then for others also.
Reconciliation This year we had only four Messianic Jewish participants in the camp, for one reason because the camp was at the end of the summer it was difficult for everyone to come. The Lord blessed our time though as Jewish/Arab friendships were built and grew strong during our week together. |
Volunteering On day number four we stretched our muscles as we split into two groups, boys going to the Child Evangelism Fellowship office and girls going to the Nazareth Baptist School. Although we heard some complaints about working hard, it was a great time to learn to work together and to be servants of the Lord. “It’s good we can help people without being paid, to show the love of Jesus Christ in how He would serve.” Albina (from Jerusalem) said in between wiping down school desks.
After all that work we needed to cool down, so it was good we had planned to spend the rest of the afternoon at the swimming pool! |

Ministry “This is the first time I’ve told someone about Jesus” were the words of Essa (from Nazareth) as we finished presenting the Four Spiritual Laws to one of the staff members of the hotel where we held the camp. The staff had agreed to be the first “practice ground” for our little campers to express their beliefs. Rajaa’ paired the kids off and assigned them to a staff member. After two hours of talking and discussing, the kids came back ecstatic at their new-found ability to share the gospel. |
| Five days into the camp we had our first performance in Akko on board a ship that was docked at the port. Our audience was small, but after the performance the kids enthusiastically spread out over the entire port area, sharing their personal faith and the Four Spiritual Laws with everyone they could. Many seeds were planted and watered, and we realized that we had chosen a good place to minister when we were met with a lot of questions about the gospel among the people in the port. “Jesus committed suicide for me?” was the surprised response of one woman when we told her that He had willingly died for her sins. |

|
Again we made a clear presentation of the gospel message during our final performance, this time in the hostel where we were staying. Just before the performance we divided into groups and went out to the streets to invite people. Our audience turned out to be quite small, but we trust that each person was touched by the Spirit, and we know that each one heard about the One who is the “Reason for the hope that is in us.”

Let’s pray about the HOL land! On September 3rd we discovered that thieves had broken into the storage container on the House of Light land. They had broken the roof, entered, and taken several tools and supplies. We were a little distraught, because we believe that the land is a project we felt the Lord was leading us into, but there has been no breakthrough on getting permission to build there, and we have not found a suitable farmer to manage the place. We admit that it’s frustrating to wait, while the land stays empty, the tractor collects dust, and our tools are robbed, but we still believe that the plan of the Lord will come into being, and are now re-motivated to exercise our faith for the opportunity to begin using the land. Anis has spent several days repairing the roof of the storage container and cleaning the land. We are happy that some
olive trees and two grape vines are growing despite the lack of a farmer to tend for them!
We ask you to fervently pray with us for the ability to build a housing structure on the land, and we ask you to fervently pray for a believing farmer who can begin to cultivate the ground. |
Pray for prison doors to be opened! Last week Anis returned from a prison in the north of Israel with the news that the inmates were excited about meeting with him and requested that he return the following week to continue their Bible Study. He did return and although there were some difficulties at the prison, the authorities finally allowed him to enter. When he got inside the men didn’t come out to the meeting. Eventually he was able to speak with one of the men who had specifically wanted to meet with him. The man was in bed with an ear sickness, but he got up to meet with Anis. We praise God that these prisoners are hungry for more of the Lord.
We need much prayer for favor with the authorities, specifically for permission to hold special meetings for Christmas inside each prison. We are praying for our team to include someone who can sing in Russian or Romanian to reach the new immigrants who do not yet speak Hebrew well, and also for the permission to bring inside the prison a small gift for each inmate we meet with. This project also will require some financial support; please pray for the Lord’s provision. If God is putting it on your heart to help, we thank you in advance.
Also the prisons recently put a new restriction on inmates with life sentences; they are no longer allowed to come to Anis’ meetings. Some of these men have been growing well in the Lord and we want to see this continue. Though the enemy puts up many barriers, we know that nothing can stand against the love of Christ. Pray with us in faith for more doors to be opened, and those that have been closed to be re-opened!
Conferences We want to say a special thank you to all those who helped us attend the ISAAC conference on substance abuse in Madrid and the PFI conference on prison ministry in Toronto. As we continue working in these ministries we find it so valuable to have more and more training from professionals in this field. We received much benefit from these conferences!
Pressing on, Anis & Nawal Barhoum, and the whole HOL Family
